Young man thrown from a poorly designed crane is badly injured
Jury Trial
A young man in his 20's was sitting on a portable crane and lifting an air-conditioning compressor onto a roof. As he was lifting the load, the cable holding the load swung a bit and the young man was catapulted out of his seat, landing in the back of a pickup truck and suffering devastating injuries. Investigation revealed that the crane was designed and built in a garage in Louisiana by an uneducated man who had never even taken high school physics. The crane was practically a seesaw. Attorney Ed Ricci won the case against crane company Extraman for his client. This case set a standard for adequate counter weights for portable cranes.
