Five people thrown from van and killed
Jury Trial
Nine family members were riding in a General Motors conversion van which rolled over, and when it did, the roof fell off. Five people were killed. Ed Ricci's firm sued General Motors for having no standards for conversion vans. At the time, small companies were allowed to put cheap fiberglass tops on the vans, which were held on with screws. When the vans flipped, the tops would pop off. The case went to trial and the Wright family prevailed. This case helped lead to more stringent requirements for conversion vans.
