Trial Bar Not to Blame for Economic Collapse

There is little doubt that the economic problems in our country today are the worst in decades. Some historians are already characterizing this period as “The Great Recession.” I have been practicing as a consumer trial attorney for over 35 years. Ever since the rise of Ronald Reagan, I have been hearing the pundits shout “the sky is falling, the sky is falling!” if trial attorneys and the tort system are not reeled in.

It is interesting to note that in the greatest economic collapse in the last 75 years, no one has attributed a single cause to the tort system or to trial lawyers. Greedy banks, greedy corporations, greedy executives, greedy mortgage companies, hedge fund operators, Bernie Madoff, etc., have all had the finger of blame placed upon them but the trial bar has not. Could it be that the accusations of the last 25 years were false?
